Borovetz overview

Borovets, the first and most famous Bulgarian mountain resort, is situated on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain at an altitude of 1300 meters. It is located at the foot of peak MOUSALA (2925 m) - the highest one on Balkan Peninsula. Borovets provides excellent opportunities for the entire range of winter sports including Alpine and cross- country skiing, ski jumps and biathlon. It has the World Cup Alpine skiing competitions two times and its biathlon track is regarded as one of the best in the world. Today Borovetz ( also spelled Borovets) is the biggest, first-class mountain resort in Bulgaria. Out on the snow-packed streets, a couple of dozen cafes and restaurants served up a mix of traditional Bulgarian cuisine as well as international favourites, such as burgers, pizzas and pasta. The quality was nothing to write home about, but when you are paying about ?20 for a meal for a family of four, you can put up with less than elegant dining for a week. There are over 45 km of ski runs varying in difficulty grouped in 3 regions: Sitnyakovo, Markoudjik and Yastrebets. The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition and are designed with international markings and multilingual signs.
