The Shipchenski monastery

The unique monument has the features of the Russian church architecture from the epoche, an orgy of colour and ornaments.The four domes and their crosses are golden.The sharp church tower has 17 bells. The crypt of the temple preserves in 12 stone sarcophagi the bones of the heroes, killed in the epic battles between the Bulgarian enslavers –The Ottomans and the Bulgarian liberators – The Russians. The most precious things in the monastery are the 34 marble tiles with the names of 18 491 fallen down for the liberation of Bulgaria Russians and volunteers. The Shipchenski monastery is situated above the small town of Shipka at the southern foot of the historic peak of Shipka.
